Last week, Corriere dello Sport reported Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta is a target for AC Milan.
The newspaper were confident the Frenchman is interested in a switch to the San Siro, with his contract expiring in 2027.
Milan’s hopes of signing the Crystal Palace striker are fading before they really took off.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s Marco Guidi spoke about the 28-year-old during an appearance on Carlo Pellegatti’s podcast.
He made it clear – relayed by MilanNews24, that Crystal Palace have put forward a ‘monstrous’ demand to Milan for Mateta. There is a belief Oliver Glasner’s side want €60m to sell the France international. That is the case despite his contract running out in around 18 months time.
This has now decisively removed Mateta’s profile from Milan’s radar. They have been priced out of a transfer, having previously tried to sign the striker too.
As a result, ‘deep reflections’ are believed to be ongoing at the San Siro about potential striker targets. The Italian side want to focus on more accessible targets, with West Ham’s Niclas Fullkrug a target.
Even in general, it would be difficult to see Mateta leaving Crystal Palace in January. Considering the Eagles’ promising start to the season, a summer exit would be more logical.
