Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner finds himself in a tricky position as his preferred move to a big club in the Premier League appears to be dwindling away.

Sport BILD report that Glasner is now the favourite at Bayer Leverkusen, but the Austrian isn’t responding to their approaches yet.

Leverkusen efforts ignored

The newspaper explains that everything at Leverkusen is pointed towards a managerial change this summer. The German club wants to reach a decision by the end of the month.

The problem is that bosses Simon Rolfes and Fernando Carro have been searching for a coach for weeks without success. Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is the preferred candidate internally.

He’s leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season. But he failed to respond to Leverkusen’s recent enquiry. Instead, he appears fully focused on the Conference League final. After that, perhaps the door will open for Leverkusen.

Glasner, though, would prefer if a door in the Premier League opens for him. He is ‘eyeing a top club in England’. But the available spots are dwindling away. Manchester United are sticking with Michael Carrick, while Chelsea have gone with Xabi Alonso.

Glasner needs convincing

This is seen as a positive for Bayer Leverkusen’s chances of getting him. The German side need to do some convincing though.

And Oliver Glasner clearly has a decision to make. Does he hold out this summer, perhaps hoping that a big job in the Premier League comes his way?

Or does he take the Bayer Leverkusen job now and make the return to Germany, where he was previously successful with Eintracht Frankfurt? It’s a decision he’ll have to weigh up in the coming weeks.

For now, it seems, he’s not all that keen on the move to Leverkusen. But perhaps that will change as the opportunities in the Premier League appear to be slipping away from him.
