Crystal Palace star Yeremy Pino will undergo tests today on a collarbone injury which could bring an end to his World Cup participation.
Marca report that the forward appears to have broken his collarbone and could now sit out the rest of the tournament.
Collarbone injury
The newspaper reports on the ‘bad news’ for the Spanish national team today following the win over Uruguay.
The Crystal Palace forward suffered a fall during a challenge in the game, which has left him with a serious collarbone injury. Manager Luis de La Fuente highlighted the seriousness of the situation after the match.
“Unfortunately, it may be a collarbone injury; we’ll have to wait and see – he’s due to undergo tests tomorrow,” he said.
“He’s in a lot of pain, and the effort he’s put in to see out the end of the match has been tremendous; it’s been a heroic performance. I’m very grateful, and his teammates even more so.”
Initial checks not positive
The newspaper explains that initial checks in the dressing room after the game were not positive. They suggested that the Crystal Palace forward had broken his collarbone. He was later seen leaving the stadium in a sling.
If that injury is now confirmed, he will miss the rest of the World Cup. And, unfortunately for Spain, De La Fuente will not be able to call up another player from his preliminary squad to replace the 23-year-old.
His absence, according to Marca, would ‘throw a spanner’ in Spain’s attacking plans. He shares the role of ‘game changer’ with Víctor Muñoz. But the new Liverpool signing is also struggling for fitness. He is currently being treated with kid gloves. Now De La Fuente could be left without both players.
It would be a major blow to their hopes after progressing to the knockout stages. But for now, it’s a wait and see. Tests today will reveal more. All indications are that it will not be good news.
