Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen will battle it out for AS Monaco’s Krépin Diatta this summer.
The winger had an opportunity to arrive in England last summer, when Burnley reportedly made an approach.
Last August, Sport Witness relayed news of the Clarets’ loan offer, while the Ligue 1 side were looking for a sale.
A move never materialised and a year later, Crystal Palace are trying to bring him to the Premier League.
The Senegal international’s contract expires at the end of this month and he’s likely to leave Monaco as a free agent.
Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen tussling
Africa Foot have a report on the Eagles and the Bundesliga side’s interest in Krépin Diatta. Their title says these two cubs are ‘in a battle to sign’ him.
Within the report, they explain both Crystal Palace and the German club are leading the race.
Bayer Leverkusen are in pole position, after carrying out two meetings with his representatives to discuss a potential deal. However, the parties didn’t come to an agreement.
The outlet warns them of a fierce competition from the UEFA Conference League winners. The Senegal international’s preferred role is on the right wing but he mainly played as a right wing-back this season.
He can also be utilised as left winger/wing-back and as a striker. The Eagles appreciate Diatta’s versatility and experience and are keen on bringing him to Selhurst Park. Africa Foot doesn’t clarify whether Crystal Palace have made contact with his camp so far.
The 27-year-old is also attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, but his desire is to continue in the top five European leagues.
New Crystal Palace manager could be key
Oliver Glasner stepped down as the Eagles manager after their European success in May.
The Premier League side are in the process of appointing the Austrian’s successor. The incoming manager could have a final say on whether Crystal Palace should make a strong push to sign Krépin Diatta.
Transfermarkt value the Senegalese at €6m and he played 1,235 minutes from 22 matches this season.
