Crystal Palace were linked with Christoph Baumgartner during the summer window, and it would appear their interest was serious.

On Tuesday, we covered a report from Germany which explained RB Leipzig aren’t mourning Xavi Simons’ move to Tottenham Hotspur. That’s because that since the Dutchman left for Spurs, Baumgartner has grown in prominence.

The added responsibility and leading role has seen the 26-year-old score 10 goals and add five assists in 16 matches. Those are very impressive figures for an attacking midfielder, and are not far from what the now Tottenham player achieved across the whole of last season.

Had Oliver Glasner got his way then Baumgartner would be at Crystal Palace. The manager wanted the Eagles to sign his compatriot, and Sky Austria have revisited it.

Glasner spoke to Sky Austria this week about renewal talks. Aside from that, they’ve reported about Crystal Palace’s attempt for Baumgarter.

The claims were made on air, and Austria’s Laola have picked them up. The Premier League club made several offers, with one of those worth €30m.

However, RB Leipzig just rejected everything which came their way. Glasner and his colleagues at Crystal Palace are said to have been left baffled by the stance.

Baumgartner spoke in October about being flattered by interest from elsewhere, but happy he stayed. For the Eagles, a transfer now looks even harder than it was in the summer.
