Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are among the suitors for Freiburg’s Merlin Röhl, with his development at the German club earning him attention.

That’s according to SportBILD, who say both sides have their eye on the 22-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.

The newspaper explains that Röhl has been enjoying steady development since joining Freiburg from Ingolstadt for €2.9m in 2022.

That’s earned him attention from outside of the Bundesliga and Crystal Palace and Newcastle are among the clubs keeping an eye on him.

Indeed, they are one of four Premier League sides to have taken noticed, with Everton seeing two bids rejected in the January transfer window and Liverpool also admiring him.

Freiburg aren’t particularly interested in selling the 22-year-old and have made it clear that anyone who wants him will have to pay significantly more than his current €12m price tag.

Whether Crystal Palace or Newcastle are willing to do so remains to be seen but they are very much in the mix and keeping an eye on Röhl’s development this season.

They will likely face competition from Everton given their two bids last month, which could set up an interesting three-way battle in the summer.
