Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastien Kehl has appeared to rule out a move for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku, insisting the finances of such a transfer don’t make sense for them.
The sporting director has been speaking to Suddeutsche Zeitung regarding his plans for the rest of the transfer window as he continues to reshape Dortmund’s squad this summer.
It’s been a summer of major change for Dortmund once again, with Jude Bellingham’s big money move to Real Madrid setting up another busy window.
Reports in Germany have made it clear that the German side’s business isn’t completed yet, with a striker now at the top of their wish list.
That’s seen them linked with a move for Lukaku, who Chelsea are keen to move on and get off the books before the end of the window.
Dortmund were seen as an option, with them keen to bolster their forward line and Lukaku believed to fit into the profile of player that Dortmund were looking for.
It seems, though, they don’t have any interest in the Belgian after all, with Kehl insisting that the finances just wouldn’t make sense for the Chelsea outcast.
“Everything at once won’t work anyway. And crazy things don’t work either,” he said.
“We communicated transparently in the first week of June that we could reinvest 60 to 65 percent of Jude Bellingham’s transfer fee in the squad. So, the numbers are there visible to everyone on the table.
“What this all says about a transfer rumour you can work out pretty easily with the calculator,” he added when asked specifically about the Lukaku rumours.
“That’s why we don’t let ourselves be driven from outside We made a very clear analysis at the end of the season. A clear plan is based on that. And we’re implementing it step by step.”
