Brighton and Hove Albion are playing the “most beautiful football in the world” at this moment in time, alongside Manchester City.
That’s according to former Italy striker Antonio Cassano, who has heaped praise on Roberto de Zerbi’s side after their 3-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday.
The Seagulls ran out comfortable winners over the Gunners thanks to goals from Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan, after a superb attacking display that saw them dominate Mikel Arteta’s side in every metric.
It was the latest top tier performance from Brighton in a brilliant campaign that has seen them flourish under De Zerbi since his arrival as Graham Potter’s replacement in September last year.
They currently sit sixth in the table and seven points behind Liverpool in fifth, albeit with two games in hand over Jurgen Klopp’s side.
They are should qualify for Europe next season, which would be just rewards for a side who have been one of the most thrilling to watch in the Premier League this season.
That’s an assessment Cassano certainly shares, hailing Brighton’s performance against Arsenal and comparing them to the best in Europe.
“They played against Arsenal, who had the most ball possession and the most chances created after City,” he said.
“They took 38% ball possession against 62% and played them like a fiddle. I hadn’t seen a gulf in class like that this year, even when Arsenal were beaten 4-1 by Manchester City. Crazy stuff.
“At the moment, Brighton are the team playing the most beautiful football in the world with Manchester City. This is a fact.”
