Coventry City star Viktor Gyökeres currently ‘waits patiently in Mykonos’ for news from his club that he will be allowed to join Sporting Club de Portugal.
That’s according to Record, who say that the Portuguese side are ready to invest the money required to sign the Sweden international but are yet to receive approval from Coventry.
The newspaper explains that Sporting have been boosted by an incoming of €19.6m from former forward Rafael Leão, who left the club for Lille on a free transfer in 2018.
The French club have since been ordered to pay Sporting for that move and the €19.6m they’ve received so far will be used to attack the transfer market this summer.
They’ve been negotiating with Coventry for weeks and a deal is ‘really close to materialising’ according to the newspaper.
Sporting recently increased their offer from €16m fixed plus €3m in bonuses to €18m plus €2m in bonuses, a move which shortened the distance between the two clubs. Talks have continued from that point and a deal is likely at €20m.
Gyökeres has long been convinced of the transfer and by talks with manager Rúben Amorim and currently ‘waits patiently in Mykonos’, where he is on holiday, for the green light to head to Lisbon and complete his move from Coventry.
