Coventry City are among the clubs chasing Angers SCO’s Jacques Ekomié ahead of the summer transfer window.
Coventry secured a promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship and are working on improving Frank Lampard’s squad for next season.
The Sky Blues seem to be focusing on improving the left-back position despite having three such players in the current squad.
Jay Dasilva has been the first choice left-back for Lampard with Jake Bidwell and Miguel Ángel Brau providing cover.
The Spaniard has been on the sidelines since January leaving 33-year-old Bidwell as the only backup for Dasilva. This, coupled with promotion and Ekomié’s performances would have convinced Coventry City to look at him.
Coventry City to provide competition
Back in January, Sport Witness relayed news that Trabzonspor had the left-back as a backup for Sheffield United’s Harrison Burrows. However, the Turkish club are not in the picture this summer.
Foot Mercato now state RC Strasbourg are making progress in the efforts to try and sign Jacques Ekomié.
The club owned by BlueCo face a ‘threat’ from England where Coventry City are ‘very interested’ and Nottingham Forest are keen on signing the 22-year-old.
Hamburg SV already looked at the Gabon international and still maintain interest in him. Schalke join them from Germany in the chase for his signature. Villarreal are also in the picture and this option, especially sporting wise, appeals to him.
Faced with the interest from several clubs, Angers SCO’s leaders are ‘already preparing to finalise’ a major sale in the upcoming window.
The Ligue 1 side have given up on retaining Ekomié as this seems almost an impossible task for them. Their plan is to sell him for around €7-10m, to make profit and believe it’s easily achievable.
Coventry City are ready to provide fierce competition to other clubs in the transfer race and time will tell whether they can convince him.
Contract, stats and value
Jacques Ekomié played 33 matches this season and will have a year left on his contract in the summer.
Transfermarkt value him at €7m, and this is the highest value of his career so far. Last June, it was at €800k and jumped to €1.5m in October before rising to €7m in March.
