Whilst it’s not rare for transfers to be completed and the fee to be undisclosed by clubs, it usually comes out pretty quickly. That’s the case with Coventry City and Jahnoah Markelo.

Coventry City and FC Zurich clearly agreed to not officially disclose the transfer fee, however, someone has quickly informed the Swiss media.

Markelo has joined Coventry City on a four and a half year contract. The 23-year-old will have big hopes of moving from the Championship to the Premier League in the summer.

Being top of the table is a big pull for Frank Lampard’s side. That’s especially true with the eight point gap to third place.

The young winger, who predominantly plays on the right, has scored three goals and added two assists this season. Those have come across 15 matches, in which he was usually a starter.

Blick, which is the biggest selling newspaper in Switzerland, reports insiders close to the deal have informed them of the fee. Those insiders aren’t going to be from the Coventry City side of the deal, so FC Zurich may be keen to slip the fee out there.

Coventry City fee outweighs player importance

The transfer fee Coventry City are paying ‘far outweighs the loss of quality to the team’, believe Blick. That fee is over €5m.

Blick point out their readers won’t be shocked at Mareklo’s exit, given he’s been hinting at one. Indeed, it doesn’t sound like the approach to the transfer has been appreciated, with the player dropping social media hints.

FC Zurich manager Dennis Hediger made his feelings clear a few days ago.

Explaining his stance on player attitude, he said: “If someone can’t commit 100%, it becomes extremely exhausting. Saying every day, ‘that’s not possible, please do it’ – sorry, that just doesn’t work. With all the players who are no longer here, their plans were quite transparent.”
