Back in April, Salzburger Nachrichten reported Manchester United ‘could win the race’ to sign Red Bull Salzburg’s Maurits Kjærgaard. It was also stated the Austrian champions needed €15m to sanction his sale in the summer.
Along with the Red Devils, AC Milan have also been credited with interest in the 19-year-old, who’s now part of the Denmark U21 squad preparing for the European U21 championship.
This allowed Bold.dk to have a chat with the midfielder, where he was asked about the reports linking him to Manchester United and the Serie A side.
When asked if Erik ten Hag’s side and others can forget about signing him in this window, he said: “Yes, right now they can. But the clubs you mention are huge. Of course, I also dream of playing in one of the biggest leagues in the world, so of course that makes me happy to hear.
The teenager managed two goals and nine assists from 36 games last season. A move to Manchester United or Milan would likely see his playing time restricted. This is vital for the player as he aims to have more prominence and continue to shine at Red Bull Salzburg next season.
“It’s probably a bit of the same. I’d love to spend another year in Salzburg because it’s a great club. I love the club and we play in the Champions League,” Kjærgaard explained.
“I also want a full season where I play every game and am a big profile in the team. Even though I feel like I’ve done really well, I still have more to give. I won’t be on the bench so much, so another full season with Salzburg I’ll be happy with.”
