Ghana have ‘ended their pursuit’ of Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.
That’s according to Ghana Soccer Net, who say the African nation ‘closes the door’ on the Arsenal forward for the time being.
They explain that following ‘several attempts’ to convince the England U21 international to switch nationality and play for Ghana at the World Cup in Qatar, the Arsenal forward is ‘yet to budge’.
He reportedly remains hesitant to commit his international future to Ghana despite efforts from their football association.
He had shown a willingness to switch allegiance in an interview in August of this year, something which prompted the Ghana Football Association to ‘step up their pursuit’ of the Arsenal man.
They wanted him to be a part of the squad for the upcoming World Cup, but with less than a month to go to that tournament, he is yet to give his approval.
There has been a strong effort by Ghana to convince players to join their cause and, led by President Kurt Okraku, they have convinced several stars such as Mohammed Salisu, Inaki Williams and Tariq Lamptey into the switch.
That has given Ghana hope for the tournament and they wanted to build on that by adding Nketiah’s name to the list but the striker ‘appears uninterested’ at this point.
