Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto is set to finally take part in a major international tournament.
The 24-year-old missed Euro 2020 due to a knee injury, and then ended up out of the 2022 World Cup with an ankle problem. Now, even though he’s been struggling with a hamstring issue recently, he’s recovered in time to be called up by Roberto Martinez to the Euro 2024.
Newspaper Record today features a story about that situation and spoke to his father, also called Pedro Neto, about the Wolves player’s feelings about the call-up.
“There was hope and, after he was deemed physically fit and played against Liverpool, he was in a position to be called up.
“He rang me straight away! He couldn’t speak, he was crying, he was very emotional.”
Neto’s dad also said his son is “very motivated” and concerned with “unloading of previous frustrations”.
With injuries often stopping Neto from playing for his country, he only has five caps for them, despite having made his debut back in 2020.
Playing for Wolves this season, Neto scored three goals and contributed 11 assists in just 14 appearances, as his hamstring injury forced him out of nearly 20 games.
It seems Roberto Martinez had to keep a close watch on his situation to call him up, and Neves will surely have big motivation to prove himself to his country in a big competition for the first time.
