Brentford’s new signing Igor Thiago is now getting targeted by some heavy criticism in the Belgian media.
That has to do with the striker’s performance against Cercle Brugge at the weekend, as he was sent off at the end of the 1-1 draw.
As pundit Marc Degryse spoke to Het Laatste Nieuws about Igor Thiago’s performance, he wondered why Brentford are making such a big investment in his signing. The quotes are relayed by Voetbal Primeur.
“Thiago misses two huge chances,” said Degryse, with it added the player ‘couldn’t keep a cool head’.
“You wonder Brentford really can’t find anything else for €37m.”
Igor Thiago does have good numbers with Club Brugge this season, as he has 26 goals and four assists in 41 appearances for the club.
However, since they’re just third in the Belgian league, far from the fight for the top of the table, it’s natural that the local media starts looking at their squad with more criticism, especially in such a delicate part of the season.
Brentford certainly were attracted by the many goals he scored this season, especially because he was in great shape between December and January, and he will likely find form again, but it does show how quickly the tide can turn.
