There appears to be some slight confusion when it comes to Brighton & Hove Albion’s efforts to sign Carlos Baleba from Lille

It was reported on Monday that the Seagulls had reached an agreement with the Ligue 1 side for the 19-year-old midfielder, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins took to Twitter on Tuesday to claim that Brighton have made a new offer this very morning to Lille for their youngster.

The bid is said to be of €25m + €5m in bonuses, and there is still ‘no agreement’ between the two sides regarding the transfer.

That isn’t the case between Brighton and the player, however, since they have already shaken hands on a contract should the transfer eventually go through.

Therefore, we have to navigate some slightly contradicting waters these days when it comes to Moises Caicedo’s successor, but Roberto De Zerbi clearly wants Baleba, and that’s who the Seagulls are currently going after.

The youngster doesn’t have a lot of experience at first-team level, but that doesn’t appear to have put off Brighton, who are willing to put a lot of money on the table for him.
