As Fluminense continue to be hopeful of signing Thiago Silva from Chelsea, this subject was once again mentioned at the weekend.

Club president Mario Bittencourt was interviewed on ESPN Brasil’s Bola da Vez, and at the end of the show, they made him some quick questions.

One of them was if Thiago Silva will join Fluminense after leaving Chelsea, and the club chief made it clear it’s all in the player’s hands.

“It depends much more on him than on us, but he said that when his contract ends there, he will return home. I hope he comes back,” Mario Bittencourt told ESPN Brasil.

The saga involving Thiago Silva and Fluminense has been on for years now, as the player always expressed his desire to return to the club at the end of his career.

The problem is that the defender continues to play at a high level in Europe, which convinced Chelsea to give him a new contract earlier this year.

Silva’s current deal with the Blues runs until the end of the season, so we’re set to see those rumours making a comeback in a few months.

The defender is turning 39 this month, so there’s probably not a lot of time left for him to play for Fluminense again.
