Striker Marvin Ducksch can leave Birmingham City this summer thanks to a non-promotion clause, worth €1m.
Sky Sport Germany report that the 32-year-old could be heading back to the Bundesliga after just a year with Birmingham.
Birmingham contract clause
According to the outlet, FC Augsburg are considering a move for the ‘prolific striker’. That’s because he’s available for a nominal fee this summer.
While his contract with Birmingham runs until 2028, Sky’s information is that is includes a non-promotion clause. That has now been triggered, with Birmingham set to spend another year in the Championship.
Marvin Ducksch is available for a fee of €1m as a result. That’s considered a bargain price in Germany, where he scored 105 goals in 268 games across the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga.
He’s also scored well in the Championship this season, bagging 10 goals in 33 games as Birmingham finished 10th in the table.
Agents contacted already
Sport Witness already covered a report earlier this month which stated that Ducksch could depart St Andrews this summer.
That report stated that Hertha BSC had already been in contact with the Birmingham striker’s agents about a potential move. The belief was that he could leave for a small fee.
There was no mention of the cost of the potential deal or why that was the case at the time. Now Sky Germany say it is a €1m clause tied into his contract. They make no mention of Hertha, though, and instead say it is Augsburg who are potentially interested.
Whether Marvin Ducksch wants to return to Germany after just a year, remains to be seen. He only joined Birmingham in a €2m deal last summer. That was his first move outside of Germany, where he’s played for various clubs after coming through Borussia Dortmund’s youth system.
Now he could be offered the chance to return, with that non-promotion clause making him available for half what Birmingham paid a year ago.
