At the weekend, Tuttomercatoweb reported on Leeds United’s interest in Udinese’s Jaka Bijol.

Soon enough, the UK press also picked up information about the centre-back and there’s been indications from England that the move is going in the right direction.

Now, hope has been provided to Leeds United by the Italian media again. Messaggero Veneto report Udinese are already looking at ways to redesign their backline after the imminent exit of Bijol.

Venezia’s Jay Idzes is seen as a key replacement for the centre-back and there has also been interest in Spezia’s Przemyslav Wisniewski.

The outlet believe Bijol is looking to make a step up in his career and has been ‘requested by’ Leeds United, who are likely to face some competition from AC Milan as well.

The Whites will have to shell out a fee of €25m to land the Slovenia international, who has now played 63 times for his national team.

Udinese find themselves in an uncertain situation from an ownership perspective but that is unlikely to impact their sporting planning. That is because the Pozzo family will remain a minority shareholder of the club, even if new ownership steps in.

Plans are already being made to replace Bijol and contact has been made for Wisniewski, so that the Friulians are not caught unprepared.
