Antonio Conte’s expected departure from Tottenham ‘makes it difficult’ for Sevilla to keep Bryan Gil this summer.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the forward is likely to return to Spurs to try and establish himself under Conte’s replacement.
They explain that the loan agreement that took Gil to Sevilla in January does not include a purchase option for the Spanish side.
Tottenham, though, sanctioned a temporary departure as they knew that Gil wasn’t getting any chances under Conte and didn’t want to ‘cut his projection’.
However, with Conte seemingly on the brink of being sacked after his outburst following the draw with Southampton last weekend, the situation around Gil has changed.
He is likely to get his chance to impress whoever replaces the Italian at Tottenham and, as such, a permanent move to Sevilla does not appear to be on the cards.
That’s fine with Sevilla for the time being as they have already lined up Ousmane Idrissi as a replacement for the Spaniard in the summer.
They’re very much of the belief that Conte’s departure ‘complicates the acquisition’ of Gil and are planning for life without him. Whether Gil can impress at Tottenham this time around remains to be seen, of course.
