Calciomercato are reporting on Wednesday afternoon that Chelsea are looking at an alternative to Romelu Lukaku. The Everton striker has repeatedly been linked with a return to his former club, but Everton certainly aren’t going to be selling cheap, and a deal would be very difficult.
It’s claimed that Chelsea have made initial contact over a possible move for Mauro Icardi. The Inter Milan captain has been pushing for a pay rise, via his wife and agent Wanda Nara, and that has led to transfer talk.
At first Nara said Inter couldn’t afford to keep Icardi, because they’d not offered him a pay rise, then she insisted Icardi and herself were against a transfer, and then hinted at an exit again, and then backtracked once more, and then… well you get the picture.
Chelsea’s claimed contact has come in the last few hours, and it follows claims from Italy that Arsenal had also contacted Nara.
Stamford Bridge may be a more fitting home for the Icardi circus than under the disapproving eye of Arsene Wenger, time will tell if there’s anything more in this than further attempts at a pay rise.
