SV Zulte Waregem’s Pape Diop agent has revealed Liverpool are one of the clubs to have made an approach over a potential deal in the summer window.
The Belgian club signed the 19-year-old from Senegalese side Diambars FC a year ago and he finished his debut season with two appearances for their senior team and five more for their reserve team.
Zulte Waregem were relegated from the Jupiler Pro League last season and this could push the midfielder to make a move elsewhere. TuttoMercatoWeb interviewed his agent Gerald Sagoe and he admitted the need to pick the “right project” for his client.
When further quizzed if there has been any contacts with other clubs over a potential move, the Senegal U23 international’s agent reveals Liverpool’s interest.
“Yes, towards the end of last season while he was busy with the national team we were contacted by Liverpool and we had preliminary meetings in Paris,” Sagoe explained.
“Three French teams have expressed interest and some Italian teams, including Napoli, have expressed interest. Together with my lawyer, Alessandro Mazzucato, we will have some appointments in Germany in the coming weeks. Let’s see what happens.”
Despite confirming having a meeting with Liverpool and interest from French clubs, Sagoe has hinted he would be more inclined towards making a switch to Serie A. At the same time, he has also explained the important factors to decide his future.
“Pape is an ambitious guy who always wants to improve and reach an ever-higher level but to do this he certainly needs to play and find a club that believes in him,” the agent concluded.
