Southampton’s Jan Bednarek played the full 90 minutes in Poland’s 1-0 win over Lithuania last week and also started in their World Cup qualifying victory over Malta on Monday.
Poland manager Michał Probierz had to replace the centre-back after the break due to an injury.
TVP Sport have a report on the 28-year-old’s situation, and their title says he will return to Southampton ‘with an injury’.
The defender clashed with an opponent in the first half and needed treatment to stop the flow of blood from his nose.
TVP Sport points out the Southampton man needed longer to recover than the opposition player. Bednarek was seen talking with Probierz and Poland doctor Jacek Jaroszewski on the touchline.
The report adds medication was provided to reduce the pain and the Pole was able to finish the first half. Cagliari’s Mateusz Wieteska, who is on loan PAOK, replaced him after the break.
Bednarek was substituted as a precaution rather than there being any serious concern of a major setback. Probierz also confirmed this to TVP Sport after the tie.
“Bednarek was constantly bleeding from the nose after the clash with the opponent. We decided that there was no point in him continuing to play, but the whole matter is not serious,” he said.
The Pole made 27 appearances for the Saints this season.
