Everton might have been given encouragement to pursue a January transfer window move for Fred, as Fenerbahçe are keen to sell.

That’s according to journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, via Fener Ajans. He reports that the Turkish side are open to offers for the midfielder.

“Fenerbahçe is considering evaluating an offer for Fred and Szymanski if it arrives during the mid-season break,” the journalist is quoted as saying about the Brazilian midfielder.

That will be of interest to Everton, who were linked with a move for Fred throughout the summer as David Moyes reshaped his squad.

An initial claim stated that Everton would be willing to pay a big transfer fee for the midfielder. This was followed by claims that they were seriously interested and had even spoken to his agent.

The idea quickly fell away as they weren’t convinced by the price that Fenerbahçe were demanding for him. Everton then signed Merlin Rohl on loan. That deal is expected to become permanent next summer.

However, they will lose Idrissa Gana Gueye in January when he heads to AFCON. They may enter the market for a replacement at that point.

Subsequently, Everton have been linked again in recent weeks. With Fenerbahçe now wiling to listen to any offers for Fred, the pieces fit into place.
