On Thursday, Tuttosport came out of nowhere and claimed Tottenham were the latest club to join in the race to sign Nicolo Zaniolo, and they made a pretty big deal about it.
A €50m bid was reportedly being prepared, and they were so intent on signing the midfielder that Juventus were worried they might lose out to Mauricio Pochettino and co. in the coming months.
Normally, with Tuttosport, these stories come, get everyone excited and then disappear for a while, but Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday seem to agree with their counterparts, although they aren’t quite as grandiose with their claims.
The national newspaper explain Spurs are one of two clubs (alongside Chelsea) to have ‘recently gathered information’ about the 19-year-old as they plan their summer window, keen to avoid yet another barren few months on the market.
There’s no mention of any incoming bids just yet from Gazzetta, and if we had to choose between the two when it comes to how strong Tottenham’s interest in Zaniolo actually is, we’d likely side with the pink outlet and not Tuttosport.
Still, it seems Spurs really are circling, even if Roma will need a lot of convincing to part ways with their starlet, keen to keep him around for next season after his breakout campaign.
