That Liverpool are interested in Denis Zakaria isn’t anything new, as we’ve covered many reports from Germany stating that.

The Swiss defensive midfielder has caught the eye of many big European sides this year with his performances for Borussia Mönchengladbach, including Jürgen Klopp’s side, and even with all the turmoil caused by the Covid-19 outbreak, there remains a belief the Bundesliga side should get a good price for their star.

However, what we weren’t prepared for on Friday was a report stating Liverpool aren’t just interested in Zakaria, but are also keeping an eye on one his teammates who plays higher up the pitch.

His name is Marcus Thuram, and if the name sounds familiar, yes, it’s because he is the son of former France international Lilian Thuram.

The 22-year-old forward, who joined Gladbach last summer, has been in good form for the Bundesliga club, scoring ten goals and assisting another nine in 33 appearances so far, and appears to have caught the attention of the Anfield scouts.

In fact, Express in Germany believe there is a ‘legitimate origin’ to a story that has ‘been fluttering across the British Isles’, and Liverpool really are keen on the striker, who is currently represented by a certain Mino Raiola.

Contracted until 2023, Thuram is valued at around €28m, according to the outlet, but they feel a transfer would need to reach around €50m before it could go through.

Either way, they maintain their stance that the Premier League leaders are keen on two of Gladbach’s players in Zakaria and Thuram, with both together ‘likely to cost more than €100m’.

That’s a lot of money, but it’s no secret Liverpool could do with a bit of extra depth up top, but whether they are prepared to spend €50m on that role remains to be seen.
