Brighton and Hove Albion are trying to bring midfielder Steven Alzate back to the club from his loan spell at Standard Liege in January.
That’s according to the Belgian side’s director of football Fergal Harkin, who believes the player would prefer to stay where he is.
Alzate joined Standard on loan from Brighton in the summer in search of regular playing time after injuries limited him to just 12 appearances and 660 minutes last season.
He’s been in and out of Standard’s side so far this season, with eight appearances in all competition and 488 minutes of football to his name.
The loan has not been as big a success as he or Brighton were hoping for, with the player even admitting that his loan club have only seen flashes of what he can offer so far.
And it seems the Seagulls would like to end it and bring him back to the club in January, although Harkin is hoping the player will resist.
“No recall has been requested for Philip (Zinckernagel) and Filippo (Melegoni),” he told Sud Info.
“(But) Brighton have come back for Steven Alzate because they are counting on him, but we are confident that he will stay at Standard, where he is very happy.”
