When Carlos Forbs joined Wolves on loan in the summer it was partly because he’d dropped in prominence at Ajax and needed a fresh chance elsewhere.

However, so far he’s had less than 300 minutes with Wolves and the move hasn’t worked out as anyone involved will have wanted. In recent days there’s been multiple reports about Ajax looking to bring him back during the current window.

De Telegraaf give an update on that today and it doesn’t sound like Forbs is someone Ajax are really banking on for the future… he’s just someone they can get right now.

Barcelona’s Ansu Fati and Rangers’ Rabbi Matondo had been linked with Ajax but those two options are now considered over. Indeed, Matondo is thought to be in Germany where he’s joining Hannover 96.

That leaves taking Forbs back from Wolves, or buying Oliver Valaker Edvardsen from Go Ahead Eagles or Real Vallodolid’s Raul Moro.

De Telegraaf explain Moro is the player they see as a long term answer but he’s just fractured his collarbone and could be out for three months. Edvardsen would be another long term investment and not someone they would sign as well as Moro, so taking Forbs back from Wolves as a stopgap is seen as a solution.

There’s also confidence that Wolves would agree to the move.

Forbs himself though probably needs to have a word with his agents to make sure he can find a new permanent home in the summer.
