Bayern Munich are growing increasingly confident that they will sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United this summer.
Abendzeitung München report that the Newcastle winger is firmly in Bayern’s plans, and a recent board meeting has pushed the potential transfer along.
Bayern meeting on Gordon
The newspaper explains that FC Bayern’s supervisory board met on Monday. That led to an agreement on one important issue; Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon should be the ‘marquee signing’ of the summer transfer window.
The German giants are hoping for another Premier League ‘coup’ to bolster their attack after the signings of Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Diaz in recent years. Each of those have worked out very well.
Bayern want to continue this now ‘successful tradition’. That’s despite an acceptance that signing Gordon from Newcastle this summer will be an expensive venture. English reports have him valued at €90m. Bayern won’t pay that much.
Instead, negotiations between the two clubs are likely to intensify in the coming weeks over a potential deal. Bayern Munich consider themselves to be in the lead.
Gordon leaning towards Munich
Anthony Gordon himself is leaning towards a move to Bayern. According to AZ’s information, a five-year contract is being discussed. The deal is seen as ‘understandable’ for Bayern.

They need top class alternatives on the wings, which they felt they were sorely lacking in the recent Champions League semi-final defeat against Paris Saint-Germain. Jamal Musiala is also a long way from his best form and Serge Gnabry will be out for an extended period.
The Newcastle forward is the preferred candidate at this moment in time. Bayern, it seems, are even talking themselves in to spending big on him this summer. But all signs are pointing towards them pushing for a deal this summer.
The big issue appears to be about Newcastle’s asking price. But if Gordon pushes enough, that is unlikely to be a major obstacle for the German champions.
