RB Leipzig are confident that they will beat Aston Villa to the signing of Tidiam Gomis.

That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who says the German side are confident the 18-year-old SM Caen youngster will be joining them.

Gomis is out of contract with the French side this summer. That’s led him to being courted by several sides across Europe.

Aston Villa are one of the sides in the mix. A report last week stated they were closing in on the signing. Monchi and his team are willing to pay this month to secure Gomis ahead of the competition.

That was followed by a report last week that they had made a second bid for the left-winger.

Plettenberg, though, reports that RB Leipzig are ‘very confident’ they will be signing the defender. At the latest, that will happen in the summer transfer window.

He says the 18-year-old has received a concrete long-term contract offer from Aston Villa but also AC Milan and RB Leipzig. The latter believe they are out in front for him at this moment in time.

Why that is the case isn’t made clear, but it seems Aston Villa may want to step up their efforts if they don’t want to miss out.
