Norwich City have been linked with a move for Hellas Verona’s Cheikh Niasse and the potential transfer is now going in the right direction.
Earlier this week, Sport Witness covered how the Championship club were one of the sides interested in the midfielder. They’ve held initial talks for him, and will be hopeful of a good deal after Verona were relegated.
Niasse has now played 33 times for the Gialloblu since arriving in January 2025 from Young Boys. The club’s instability has impacted him negatively and arguably, his best came during the stint with the Swiss club.
A move to England is on the cards and Norwich City are closing in on a deal.

Talks between Verona and Norwich City are currently ongoing. Both parties are trying to come closer to an agreement.
There is a gap to bridge but the newspaper are confident that a ‘yes’ can arrive in the next few days.
Verona signed Niasse initially on loan in January 2025 and then exercised a €9m option to buy at the end of the 2025/26 campaign. His current deal runs out in 2029, giving Verona some protection.
Our take: Player at the right age
Niasse was well regarded during his time at Young Boys. Verona are usually a club that sign players for low fees with the hope of making a profit.
The midfielder is someone who should provide that. He is a pure ball-winner who suits English football. Even if he isn’t exceptional on the ball, he is a very good screen for the backline and improves teams defensively.
He could add value to Norwich City, and at 26 should be moving into his prime. The Italian side are probably looking at a capital gain and if the right money is on the table, a deal should go through.
