Fenerbahçe are close to sealing a deal for Atletico Madrid defender Çağlar Söyüncü and beating Fulham to his signature.
That’s according to Sabah, who say there is increasing confidence the centre-back will be returning to his homeland rather than the Premier League.
They report that Fenerbahçe are ‘very close’ to sealing a deal for the Turkish defender, who they’ve been trying to add to their squad for some time.
The 27-year-old hasn’t found a place at Atletico since joining in the summer and has suitors all over Europe, with Porto, Fulham and Roma also in the mix for him.
It is Fenerbahçe who have moved decisively for him, though, making an offer to sign the defender on loan until the end of the season.
Atletico had initially been against this as they want a permanent sale but viewed the offer positively, with Fenerbahçe director Selahattin Baki having travelled to Spain to convince them.
They’ve also received the approval of Söyüncü, who sees the move as a ‘great opportunity’ to get regular playing time and ensure he’s in Turkey’s squad for Euro 2024 in the summer.
Thus, a transfer is nearing completion and there is increased confidence the Turkish side will beat Fulham, and other suitors, to his signature this month.
