Last Friday, Gazzetta dello Sport came up with a surprise report that Manchester United are ‘pressing’ to sign AC Milan star Theo Hernandez.
The Red Devils continue to be pushed forward as a contender for the left-back if multiple reports coming out of Italy are to be believed.
Journalist Vittorio Oreggia told MilanNews.it about Manchester United’s interest in the 25-year-old.
“That is to say that the incomings at Milan is all linked to the exits. In particular, I know of a concrete interest from [Manchester] United in Theo Hernandez,” he said.
“This is a decisive crossroads for understanding Milan’s goals and strategies, both incoming and outgoing, as well as the seasonal goals…”
Over at Calciomercato, they state the France international has ended up in the Red Devils’ sights. They state he’s on ‘top of their list’ as Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster the left-back position.
It’s said Manchester United haven’t taken any official steps so far and an offer of €80-90m would be needed to convince the Rossoneri.
Hernandez’s deal is until 2026 and this puts Milan in a strong position. Calciomercato say Manchester United’s ‘threat is real’ but it doesn’t worry the Italian club.
Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were the two left-backs at Old Trafford last season. Shaw had impressed while the Dutchman did a decent job when given opportunities.
Taking this into account and Manchester United’s need to bolster other positions, it would not make sense for them to invest big on Hernández unless Ten Hag has a plan to move the England international in a more central position.
