Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta has made clear his future at the club isn’t certain at the end of the season.
The subject of a potential transfer is today mentioned by French newspaper L’Equipe, who features an interview with the 26-year-old.
The outlet points out there are ‘concrete contacts’ from Napoli to sign him from Crystal Palace, as the Serie A side will be looking for a replacement for Victor Osimhen very soon.
Mateta is then asked about the possibility of switching sides at the end of the season, and he said he’ll speak to the London club about that.
“I’m going to have an interview with the coach and the managers and we’ll see.”
The player, however, claims that his focus is on going to the Euro with France, for whom he’s still to make his debut.
“Les Bleus! It’s too important for me. I’m not going to hide, I’m thinking about the Euros. The French team is my number one goal, my childhood dream. I’ll look at the list.
Mateta joined Crystal Palace in a move from Mainz. He arrived on a loan in January 2021 and had his move made permanent a year later for €11m.
It turns out that the striker is having his best time for the Eagles, with 16 goals and four assists in 38 appearances this season. Therefore, it will be a little irritating to see he’s not ruling out an exit in the summer window.
Indeed, doing that brief interview with L’Equipe, talking up his progress, and having Napoli thrown in, sounds like a classic early summer attempt to fish for interest.
