Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has ‘lost all confidence’ in defender Davinson Sánchez, with the Colombian’s future at the club very much in doubt.
That’s according to the Colombian edition of Marca, who cover the defender today as his struggles at Tottenham continue.
Sánchez has been with Spurs since a €42m move from Ajax in 2017 but has struggled to replicate the form he showed for the Dutch giants during his time at the club.
That has certainly been the case since Antonio Conte’s arrival, with the Italian spending on Cristian Romero as a direct replacement and using Sánchez sparsely, if at all.
Marca cover that, stating that the defender’s performances have ‘always been highly contentious’ since his arrival at Tottenham.
His involvement has been in decline over the past few years, with other players in his position ‘winning him over’ in terms of performances.
This season he been rotated in and out and only played the full 90 minutes on three occasions, with his last full Premier League game coming in 31st August.
His numbers have been ‘poorer’ in the Champions League, where he only featured in one of Tottenham’s games and managed just 12 minutes in the group stages.
His chances of playing time in future, particularly as a starter, are ‘remote’ and Conte has ‘lost all confidence in him’.
His ‘lack of forcefulness, poor control of the ball and lack of pace’ in some areas are all major weak points that he cannot overlook and that means he will remain on the bench in future unless there are injuries to others.
That’s a sad situation for a player who cost so much and is a cause of concern in Colombia, who need him playing regularly at a high level if he is to shine for them.
