Rangers manager Danny Röhl guided the Ibrox club to third in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Russell Martin was in charge at Ibrox at the start of the season and Rangers parted ways with him after a series of poor results in October.
Later that month, the Scottish club appointed Röhl as his successor and the German has managed 40 matches.
His record for the Glasgow club are as follows:
- Matches played: 40
- Wins: 22
- Draws: 7
- Loses: 11
- Goals scored: 88
- Goals conceded: 52
Bild caught with the Rangers manager to review his time at the club and also talk about topics including plans for the summer window.
Röhl discusses Rangers summer plans
The German newspaper were curious to find out what needs to be done for Rangers to have a ‘championship dynasty like the one they enjoyed in the late 1990s and 2000s’.
When responding to that, Danny Röhl talked about the importance of having the same goal and focusing on long-term gains.
“We need personnel rebuild, but also more consistency. Many coaches have come and gone in recent years, each with their own philosophy, each trying to build a team,” he said.
“Now I’m here, and there’s a clear roadmap. Together with the board, meaning the club’s decision-makers and investors, we want to find the players who can help us. The goal isn’t to create a one-hit wonder, but to win titles over two, three, or four years. Perhaps that’s why we have to go through this difficult period again.”
Bild immediately asked whether that means a shopping spree for Rangers in the summer.
“I do think we’re initiating a transformation. But there are clear processes in place,” Röhl explained.
“I work closely with the technical director, the CEO, and the performance director at the club. If players become interesting to me, the board assesses the feasibility of signing them, and ideally, decides and implements the move.”
Germany option for Rangers
Andreas Skov Olsen and Ryan Naderi arrived at Ibrox from VfL Wolfsburg and Hansa Rostock in the winter market.
When asked whether Rangers will sign Bundesliga players in the upcoming window, Danny Röhl talked about the pressure at Ibrox.
“We’re well aware that the team needs leaders. You can’t meet the demands with just young players. This club is extremely unique and demanding,” he said.
“And I’ve experienced Bayern Munich; I know the pressure to win titles there. It’s even more brutal here. Because here, too, the media and the surrounding environment scrutinise everything every single day. You can’t celebrate victories too euphorically, and you can’t let defeats get you down too much. The team needs calm and composure.”
Backing from 49ers
The Rangers manager enjoys the backing of the current owners, who haven’t been critical of him so far.
“No [need to travel to America]. The decision-makers are here very often, almost weekly. That makes things easier. It’s almost a European model, and therefore almost completely different from, for example, Sheffield,” he explained.
“No [criticism from investors]. Only complete support. They want me to lead the club back to titles. We’ll tackle that in the summer with a proper preseason and a completely revamped team.”
