Earlier on Tuesday, Le10 Sport carried on pushing a story they had previously tried to get going in June, which was Newcastle trying to sign Lille’s Thiago Maia.

The French outlet stated the midfielder could ‘quickly’ leave the Ligue 1 side on a loan with a view to buy, and the Magpies were ‘close’ to finding an agreement.

And, much like last time, La Voix du Nord, Lille’s local newspaper, come in and deny the whole thing.

Back in June, they said it was ‘premature to confirm’ the veracity of the reports.

This time, they simply throw the story in the bin, stating neither Lille nor Newcastle have confirmed talks being underway, with someone close to Rafa Benitez’s side stating: “This story is completely made up”.

Therefore, La Voix du Nord state it is ‘very unlikely’ to see Thiago Maia heading for St James’ Park this summer.

If you had to ask us, we’d lean more with this story than the original one, mostly because the local newspaper tend to be quite good when it comes to their neighbourhood club.
