It seems Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder João Moutinho isn’t returning to Porto anytime soon.
Despite recent rumours saying the 36-year-old could head back to the Dragons this summer, that possibility is now dismissed by the Portuguese media.
Journalist Pedro Sepulveda writes on Twitter that it’s ‘completely false’ that Porto want Moutinho signed from Wolves this summer.
It’s said the Dragons are actually looking for a midfielder of ‘other profile’ to replace Matheus Uribe in the squad.
Moutinho’s contract with Wolves expires this summer, and with no announcement of a renewal yet, it’s more likely he’ll end up leaving Molineux in the coming weeks.
This season, he even made 36 appearances for the club, showing that even with an advanced age, he’s still able to deliver some consistency wherever he goes next.
The midfielder was signed by Wolves on a €5.6m deal from Monaco in the summer of 2018. In his five years at the club, he had 212 appearances, with five goals scored and 25 assists made.
A return to Porto would mean finishing his career at a club he had history with, but it seems he’ll have to go somewhere else.
