When Fulham signed Andreas Pereira from Manchester United this summer, the player was actually living a dilemma with another club.

The midfielder had spent the previous year at Flamengo, who couldn’t decide whether they’d advance for his permanent transfer, in a saga that lasted months. Soon after his return to the Red Devils was confirmed, the Whites showed up and bought him.

This story was recalled in Andreas’ own words, as he gave Brazilian outlet UOL a long interview at the weekend.

There, he explained how the move to Fulham happened and the big influence that manager Marco Silva had on it.

“I was feeling very good with Dorival. I would have liked to have continued and finished the year with him. But I arrived at the end of my loan and it became more difficult to negotiate with Manchester United to stay at Flamengo. It was at that time that Marco Silva appeared and showed me the Fulham project,” Andreas Pereira told UOL.

“He called me two or three times. The second time, he said: “Andreas, come here. I need you”. And he explained how he wanted the team to play. It was exactly what I think about football. It was an incredible thing. My heart was divided, because I liked living in Rio, I liked the club, the people, I wanted to end the year, the team was flying…

“But it was an opportunity to play in the Premier League, the biggest league in the world. It would be a chance to make a comeback in Europe. So I accepted the challenge.”

Last week, the very same UOL revealed that Fulham plan to make with Andreas Pereira their biggest sale ever, as they expect him to leave for over £35m.

The Brazilian version of Goal has also been speaking of the midfielder’s future, claiming both he and the Whites are planning his summer transfer out of Craven Cottage.

So it seems his story at the club may last less than expected.
