There’s a cockiness building in Italy over Napoli signing Billy Gilmour and the deal being pretty much agreed.
Antonio Conte has apparently targeted the Brighton & Hove Albion player in what would be an interesting move for the 23-year-old.
Italian journalist Valter De Maggio is quoted by CalcioNapoli24 as saying: “At the same time I tell you that if Cajuste accepts Galatasaray, everything is done for Gilmour’s arrival from Brighton too.”
Over at Corriere dello Sport they report one of Jens Cajuste or Gianluca Gaetano needs to leave before Gilmour can arrive, and there’s interest from multiple clubs in both players.
They also state Napoli are preparing a new offer to send to Brighton after their initial €10m was rejected by the Premier League club.
Once again no figure is mentioned with regards to a second offer, and there’s no clarity on what Brighton want either.
Gilmour played 41 matches for the Seagulls last season so was clearly a much used member of the squad. He has a contract running until June 2026, and Brighton aren’t under serious pressure in that regard.
Napoli will therefore surely have to raise their offer considerably, so maybe the cockiness will subside at that point.
