Brighton and Hove Albion are closing in on a deal to sign Sassuolo coach Roberto De Zerbi as Graham Potter’s successor.
That’s according to Corriere Della Sera and Sky Italy, who both provide updates on the Seagull’s negotiations with the Italian coach.
Corriere state that following first contacts between Brighton and De Zerbi it was made clear that there was a deal there to be done, with meetings going very positively.
He’s had ‘a few’ meetings with the Brighton hierarchy since and ‘the impressions were very good’ for the club and coach. They’re now working to reach a final agreement.
That’s backed up by Sky, relayed by Napoli Magazine, who say the De Zerbi is ‘close’ to moving to the Premier League and ‘ready to fly to England’.
They say that negotiations are continuing and are now at ‘an advanced stage’, although there are still important steps to be taken before a final agreement can be reached.
Talks will continue in the coming hours to reach a deal. Corriere back this up, stating that important details are missing and one of them is the ‘planning aspect’, which is fundamental for De Zerbi.
He is tempted by a move to the Premier League but is asking for guarantees that can make his work effective ‘over the years’. In other words, he wants guarantees he’ll be backed to build something over time.
Either way, his management are ‘continuing to keep in touch’ with Brighton and now appears to be one of the leading candidates to replace Potter.
