Sevilla are becoming concerned that the ‘temptation’ to join Newcastle United is becoming ‘too great’ for Diego Carlo as they anticipate an offer from the Magpies in the summer.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who believe it is inevitable that Newcastle will improve on the efforts they made to get Carlos in the January transfer window.

Eddie Howe’s side were extremely keen on the Brazilian defender throughout January as they looked to improve their defence as part of a rebuild that month.

They were very close to getting their man after agreeing on a deal that would have seen him triple his wages, but Sevilla blocked a move happening as they didn’t want to lose a key player midway through the campaign.

Newcastle eventually signed Dan Burn, and he has proven to be a key man in their upturn in form since January, but they are likely to keep improving their squad in the summer.

That could see a return to Carlos and Estadio state that if they came to offer €40m in January, then it ‘seems clear’ that they would raise that in the summer.

That’s because there is ‘more time to negotiate’ a deal, and there is also time for Sevilla to look for replacements, something which was harder to do in January.

Key to the whole thing is Jules Koundé. Carlos is considered more important than the Frenchman by Julen Lopetegui, who has even used the Brazilian when injured.

If Koundé were to leave then, his partner would not be allowed to depart as well, even if Sevilla were to go and sign other defenders.

It’s all in the air, but with Newcastle’s other options, such as Sven Botman, heading elsewhere, there is a growing sense that they will return for Carlos and even offer more than they did in the January transfer window.
