At the weekend, we relayed news from Italy that Liverpool have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Franck Kessié.

The midfielder has less than a year left on his contract at AC Milan.

Il Milanista say the case concerning the 24-year-old’s renewal has already begun at the San Siro.

The Ivory Coast international is ‘firm’ in his demands for €7-8m net per season plus bonuses. These demands are deemed ‘too high’ for Stefano Pioli’s side, who have stopped at an annual salary of €6.5m for the next five seasons.

The Rossoneri don’t want to drag the case out too long and therefore, they are open to receiving offers from big clubs. According to Il Milanista, the Reds have ‘set their sights’ on Kessié.

Jürgen Klopp has Fabinho in the defensive midfield position, but the Merseyside club want a backup for the former AS Monaco man.

Milan take on Liverpool in the Champions League at Anfield on September 15th and the report adds the talks between the two sides could be ‘deepened’ for Kessié later this month.

Milan chiefs Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara ‘would have in mind to propose’ a swap deal involving Kessié and Thiago Alcântara in January.

The website states an ‘equal exchange’ would please everyone to avoid the worst case scenario of the player leaving as a free agent next summer.

There’s no mention whether Liverpool and/or Thiago are in favour of accepting this ‘crazy proposal’ from Milan, in exchange for Kessié
