Aymeric Laporte’s summer transfer from Manchester City to Al-Nassr is generating some controversy in France.
As reported by Sud Ouest, neither of the player’s former clubs Agen and Bayonne have seen the ‘colour of money’ they are entitled to.
Al-Nassr paid Manchester City €27.5m for Laporte’s move, and a percentage of that transfer, like any other, was supposed to go to clubs where the player trained as a youngster.
The story points out there was a 30-day deadline for that money to be paid. The move was made official on the 24th of August, which means the time has passed and the payment wasn’t made.
According to Sud Ouest, Agen, who had Laporte between 2005 and 2009, were supposed to get €275k from the move. Bayonne trained the defender between 2009 and 2010, and are entitled to €70k.
The information is that it’s Al-Nassr who were supposed to pay the training clubs, so Manchester City don’t hold responsibility.
We shall see if the French sides go to FIFA to put pressure on the Saudi club, who have Laporte under contract until 2026.
