Over the past few days, the English media reported that Arsenal are interested in signing Pablo Maia from São Paulo.
The midfielder had already been linked to other Premier League clubs, and it’s now apparently the Gunners who joined the race for him.
The rumour made some noise in Brazil, and Gazeta Esportiva now has something to say on Arsenal’s potential chase.
Their story claims that São Paulo do not deny that the player draws interest from Europe, but the Brazilian club dismisses the possibility of selling him in January.
They’ve just sold Lucas Beraldo to Paris Saint Germain, besides negotiating their stadium’s naming rights, so money is not a problem for them right now.
Especially regarding Arsenal, São Paulo claimed that no formal offers arrived for Maia so far, and only a ‘very good bid’ would convince them to negotiate his exit right now.
São Paulo sold Beraldo for over €20m, so we can only guess that it’d take more than that to buy Maia. Maybe Arsenal would have a bigger chance if trying a negotiation in the summer.
