One of the big deals of the summer, Leicester City’s acquisition of Wesley Fofana from AS Saint-Etienne has been a smart piece of business.

The 20-year-old has taken to Premier League football like a duck to water, fully showcasing why the Ligue 1 club were reluctant to let him leave for anything below the €40m the Foxes could end up paying.

While getting the money was great for their bank accounts, the shareholders, however, are a bit annoyed.

That’s according to But! Football Club, who report they ‘regret’ that Saint-Etienne ‘didn’t ask the Foxes to put Islam Slimani in the Fofana deal’ and that their now ex-general director, Xavier Thuilot, didn’t ‘personally travel to England to negotiate the deal’.

Thuilot was sacked at the weekend and is expected to be replaced by Jean-François Soucasse, and it appears the centre-back’s transfer has a lot to do with it.

His reluctance to move to Saint-Etienne was also problematic, as he did weekly travels to see his family in Lille.

Add on top of that the fact they missed out on Slimani, who could now end up joining Lyon, their local rivals, and you have a growing list of reasons why Thuilot was kindly asked to leave.
