As far as transfer sagas go, the interest of AS Roma in West Ham United’s Gianluca Scamacca has been a bit dull.
This is mostly due to the Hammers’ reluctance to move away from their stance of only wanting him to leave permanently were he to exit the London Stadium this summer, which the Serie A side aren’t prepared to commit to.
Their ideal scenario would be to bring the West Ham forward on loan, with or without an option to buy they can trigger later if needed, knowing full well that Tammy Abraham will eventually return from his knee injury, and Gazzetta dello Sport bring the latest on Thursday.
This comes a day after the Italian spoke directly with the newspaper about his first season in England and potential desire to return to his home country.
If that was an attempt at forcing West Ham’s hand, it hasn’t really worked, as Gazzetta explain they have rejected the advances of Roma to date.
Therefore, something needs to change, and the Serie A club are tweaking their formula a bit, with a loan offer with ‘an option to buy which becomes an obligation in the presence of three conditions is being finalised’.
Those three conditions would be the number of appearances, goals and whether or not Roma qualify for next year’s Champions League.
The first two are the real negotiating point, because depending on what the limits are, they could be either easy or difficult to reach.
Either way, José Mourinho wants his new signing to ideally arrive before July 22nd, which is when his team leave for the second part of their pre-season, until August 3rd, and there’s a feeling that if Scamacca arrives before then, it would be ‘half a masterpiece on the part of management’.
