Aston Villa’s chances of securing the signing of Mario Hermoso from Atletico Madrid remain high, with the Spanish side having not offered him a new deal since December.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who report that the defender is facing his last days at the club unless there is a 180 degree turn in proceedings.
The newspaper explains that the centre-back’s contract ends on June 30th and there is currently no conversation underway between him and Atletico over an extension.
Diego Simeone would be happy for him to stay and has made that clear publically and privately, but everything indicates that won’t be the case.
The player hasn’t heard from the club since December, when they made him a very low offer to extend his deal that would have seen his salary reduced by 50%.
Since then, he has not received a single offer from the club, which has led him to believe they are not interested in an extension and he needs to find himself a new club instead.
Fortunately for him he has plenty of suitors, including in England, where Aston Villa have long been named as one of the potential options for him.
Indeed, a report earlier this month stated that Aston Villa manager Unai Emery had called the player about a move to Villa Park and that was growing ever more likely.
This report adds to that, with Atletico’s lack of effort or movement on a new deal seemingly pushing Hermoso closer to the exit door and therefore, potentially closer to arriving at Aston Villa.
