Since the start of December, there has been an insistence in Germany that Newcastle United are interested in Marcus Thuram.
It makes a lot of sense, since the forward has been in prolific form for Borussia Mönchengladbach this season, scoring 10 goals in 14 games, and has a contract expiring at the end of the season.
This is also the kind of deal Newcastle are looking to do these days, meaning acquiring quality at a low price, with January the perfect time to strike.
That’s because Gladbach are already preparing to replace the forward with a striker of their own in Dion Drena Beljo, who currently plays for NK Osijek in Croatia.
Now, going back to Thuram, Sport Bild, who run the article, claim the club’s ‘pain threshold’, meaning how much they are willing to hold onto the Frenchman for, is €12m.
As things stand, it’s said the favourite among the ‘many tops clubs’ after him are Inter, but we all know that can change in the blink of an eye if some Premier League clubs come knocking.
Whether Newcastle end up being one of those remains to be seen, but previous reports did suggest they would be ready to go for it in January.
