Thrown in at the deep end following Fabian Balbuena’s injury against Watford, Angelo Ogbonna was once again present in West Ham’s defence on Thursday night vs Southampton.
The Italian played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 win, but with the Paraguayan’s injury not seeming too serious, there’s a good chance the 30-year-old could return to his seat on the sidelines in the foreseeable future.
That’s why the rumours surrounding a potential exit refuse to go away, as Gazzetta dello Sport continue their reporting on Bologna’s interest in Ogbonna for January.
A lot would have to happen for any deal to take place, as it was previously made clear the West Ham defender’s wages could be an issue, but it doesn’t seem to have put them off entirely.
It will also be worth keeping an eye on the managerial situation in Bologna, as Filippo Inzaghi’s future is in serious jeopardy, with claims a loss against Napoli (this seems a bit harsh) could see the former Milan striker dismissed, with Roberto Donadoni the favourite to replace him.
Whether that changes anything regarding Ogbonna remains to be seen, as if the Italy international is the club’s target rather than the manager’s, things should stay the same going forward.
